Rwanda Snapshot

Rwanda is located in East Africa, where the climate is paradise-like, with temps from 60-80 degrees all year long. Rwanda is known for its mountainous topography, green tea, mountain gorillas, and the genocide of 1994. It's a beautiful country with a growing sense of hope out of a notably tragic past.

Rwanda is a little country about the size of Maryland, nestled between the Congo, Uganda, Tanzania, and Burundi.

The flag of Rwanda: The blue band represents happiness and peace, the yellow band symbolizes economic development, and the green band symbolizes the hope of prosperity. The sun represents enlightenment. This flag was designed and adopted following the genocide in an attempt to bring unity to a broken country and begin moving beyond the tragedy.

Rwanda is a beautiful, green, mountainous country.

Because of the tropical climate combined with the mountainous topography, Rwanda is a great place for growing green tea, the country's largest export.

One third of the world's mountain gorillas live in Rwanda. Many people from around the world each year visit Rwanda and book gorilla treks to catch a glimpse of these amazing primates.

Over a million people lost their lives in the genocide of 1994, where a turbulent history between tribes intensified when the President of the country was killed, resulting in mass murders of men, women, and children.

Although hope and reconciliation have emerged over the last twenty years, the tension, hurt, and history remains. May God continue to bring people together in unity.
